Science

SME offers a robust science enrichment for club members using a unit-study approach that unites both faith and reason through topical study, discussion, and hands-on demonstrations and experiments. Our curriculum uses the TAN Academy Foundations of Science as a spine, then our science leadership develops specialized supplements that connect specifically with our Explorers Club children. All abilities are welcome and encouraged to explore God's world with us. The Explorers rotate through six units on a three-year cycle:

  • Animals (including habitats)
  • Earth Science (including weather, physics, chemistry, geology, and engineering)
  • Human Body (including medicine, robotic surgery, and psychology)
  • Outer Space (including exploration, rockets, and robotics)
  • Marine Studies (including oceanography, biology, and ship building)
  • Plants (including farming and fossils)

Leader Science Instructor: Mallory Carey

Mallory Carey is a founding member of the Explorers Club and our lead science instructor. Mrs. Carey has been leading science enrichment blocks for the Explorers Club since our first semester (Fall 2022). Always having had a passion for science, Mrs. Carey owned her first microscope at age 7 and startled her teacher at age 6 by drawing an anatomical heart during a Valentine's project. She is passionate about encouraging a love of learning. Mrs. Carey believes that all children can discover the complex intricacies of God's world and can grow in faith and love through that knowledge. She encourages our Explorers Club children to rely on credible sources and to never stop asking questions.
