Mayra Alvarez

Board of Directors Role: Secretary

Explorers Club Role: Mini Manatee Faith Instructor & Crawdad Cruisier Leader

Mrs. Alvarez is a wife and a momma to three little ones. She is about to embark on her homeschooling journey with her eldest boy who is five. Born and raised in Arkansas, she graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor’s degree in early
childhood education. While in college, she was a nanny for three families, worked at multiple nurseries, helped out with her family’s Mexican restaurant business, and was a substitute teacher for public schools. Upon graduating, she taught at a public school for a year before leaving to Mexico to get married. For almost a year, she worked at a daycare and taught English to elementary school students before moving back to the states. She then became a stay-at-home mom when her first son was born and volunteered as a third and fourth grade catechist for 2.5 years before moving to Mississippi. Mrs. Alvarez is bilingual, knowing Spanish and English, but she also studied Latin and French extensively throughout her high school and
college years. Her hobbies include kickboxing, cooking and baking. She runs a successful home baking business. She is honored to serve on the board and be part of the teaching staff with Stella Maris Explorers. Mrs. Alvarez believes that the most important job for a parent is to guide their children to heaven, and homeschooling makes that difficult job a tad bit easier in today’s world.
